ABOUT US
Welcome to the School of Special Educational Needs: Medical and Mental Health.
We are a Department of Education school.
We are a Department of Education school.
The School of Special Educational Needs: Medical and Mental Health (SSEN:MMH) provides educational support for public and non-government school students whose medical or mental health prevents them from successfully participating in their enrolled school programs. We are one of seven Specialist Schools, with the others being SIDE, Instrumental Music, Alternative Learning Settings, Behaviour & Engagement, Disability, and Sensory.
SSEN:MMH provides teaching programs that service selected inpatient units and day programs daily, providing specialist educational support for primary and secondary students who are in hospitals. We also provide outpatient liaison programs through hospital and CAMHS clinic referrals to assist students with ongoing health needs to improve their engagement in learning or return to school. Our Medical Referral program includes learning at home and liaison support for students referred to us through an enrolling school or a treating health team with parent consent and appropriate medical authorisation.
Staff at SSEN:MMH are continuously establishing and maintaining the vital link between the health service and schools that is so necessary for a student's total care. Education staff work as part of an inter-disciplinary team and coordinators of programs endeavour to ensure that students' needs can be supported.
We deliver over 60 teaching and liaison programs in more than 40 Department of Health settings and have over 90 staff that support more than 5,500 students a year.
