Cystic Fibrosis Information Session
On Friday 28th May 2021, the Telethon Kids Institute treated our staff and students to a presentation about cystic fibrosis. To promote The 65 Roses Day and create awareness, our program students learned about the condition and it’s treatment while talking to the researchers to understand the work that they are doing to support Cystic Fibrosis sufferers. The students had a great time making slime with the facilitators.

National Reconciliation Week 2021 at SSEN:MMH
On Wednesday 26th May 2021 our PCH L4 and Bentley Touchstone cohorts participated in a Reconciliation Art Activity. Staff and students learnt about NRW, Stolen Generations, Referendum 1967 and Eddie Mabo.
Archie Roach’s song, “Took the Children Away”, was playing with everyone glued to the screen.
At Touchstone, our students continued their exploration of Aboriginal culture by enjoying Lilly Pilly jam and chutney with homemade bread.
Reconciliation Week is a time of reflecting, remembering, sharing and healing for Our First Nations People. It’s a time to learn about our cultural history through dance, art, storytelling and sharing.

Ethan's Story
“Hi my name is Ethan and I am a year 8 student.
I go to two schools. One being my regular school two days a week, and the second school is the one in Dialysis called the School of Special Education Needs. This is so I am not missing out on school while I am being treated for renal disease. The teachers at the hospital make the subjects more interesting and less boring. The teachers are funny and make me laugh. We play games when I finish work, especially Connect 4, as I always win. My favourite subjects are Music, Science and Humanities and Social Studies. I also met the Director General of Education Lisa, and she was very kind…”

Christmas Fair at PCH
At the PCH Christmas Market, SSEN:MMH had a stand that allowed parents and students to work together to learn interesting facts about Christmas around the world.
We had some students saying Merry Christmas in Spanish, Italian, French and many other languages. Students were surprised that Russian people believe that Dez Moroz (Father Frost), dressed in blue and white, leaves presents for children on the 7th of January.

Volunteer Week Morning Tea
Week nine gave us an opportunity to show volunteers our appreciation for their wonderful service in our schoolrooms. We held morning teas throughout the week, with Pam Statham's pretzel chocolate mix a great hit! Our teachers very much enjoyed spending time with our valued supporters.

WASO Christmas Concert
We were lucky enough to celebrate Christmas cheer with our students with a concert by the gifted musicians from The West Australian Symphony Orchestra. On the wards, some of our students were fortunate enough to meet the musicians for a quick chat and a demonstration of the instruments.
The day was rounded off by a visit from our Director General of Education Lisa Rodgers. Lisa met our students on the ward and had tea with our teachers before opening the concert.

Our New Chaplain
We are excited to welcome our new chaplain Jane Marsh. Jane joined us in Mid-November 2020 and brings with her a world of experience. Jane is a mum of 4 and has a self-professed love of cats. Max her Russian Blue is the apple of her eye. Jane is well-travelled having lived in Singapore, Hong Kong, Jakarta and the U.K. In Istanbul Jane taught students using her primary school teaching qualification. Jane‘s love for people is clearly evident in her work on the wards and her empathic ear is a comfort for staff.

Book Bunker
Our students are lucky enough to participate in a literacy initiative that the school runs in partnership with PCH’s Fun on Four program. Wonderful volunteers from Fun on Four’s Book Bunker spend Tuesday and Thursday afternoons sharing the delights of the literary world with our students.
