The Education pathways of students engaged with the SSEN:MMH Report (click on link to read) The School of Special Educational Needs: Medical and Mental Health (SSEN:MMH) provides educational support for students whose medical or mental health prevents them from successfully participating in their enrolled school programs. Support is available to both public and private school students. Referrals are received through the Department of Health with parent consent. Home and Hospital teaching referrals can be made by schools with parent consent and an appropriate medical certificate. We are open during public school terms and can be contacted by phone between 8:15 and 4pm. Over 80 teaching and support staff (mostly part time) support more than 5,500 students a year. We deliver over 50 teaching and liaison programs in more than 20 Department of Health settings statewide. Staff at SSEN:MMH are continuously establishing and maintaining the vital link between the health service and schools that is so necessary for a student's total care. Education staff work as part of an inter-disciplinary team and coordinators of programs endeavour to ensure that students' needs can be supported. Parents of long-term hospitalized students, students with chronic health conditions, and students whose learning environment will change are encouraged to make contact with the School Principal or Associate Principals as soon as possible so that a program can be planned in conjunction with all key personnel. The Principal is happy to be contacted at any time for support and encourages ongoing feedback which may help identify changing needs and improve service.
